It’s probably safe to say Tian Shan never thought of Hindu Kush and her siblings as anything more than commodities. Assets to be used to advance her own agenda. She never considered that one or all of these kids might have dreams of their own. Dreams they would be willing to fight and die for.
She also never believed she would need Hindu Kush’s help getting out of the underworld. If she did she believed she could beat her daughter into submission. Only after she died did she realize that she had underestimated her offspring’s resolve. And strangely she is for the first time, proud of Hindu Kush.
